Free vs Premium - what’s included
DMV Ready is free to download and use every day. Premium removes the daily limits and unlocks the AI Hub. No ads in either tier, no signup required to start.
What’s included at each level
| Feature | Free | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Full exams | 1 per day (3 total) | Unlimited |
| Practice tickets (20-question state tests) | Tickets 1-5 | All tickets |
| Topics (practice by category) | First 5 topics | All 14 topics |
| Rule cards / study library | First 3 subcategories | All subcategories |
| Mistake drills | 5 per day | Unlimited |
| Sign Quiz & Sign Reference | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| AI Hub: Quick Practice, Readiness Predictor, Study Plan, AI Sign Scanner | Not included | Included |
| Achievements, leaderboard, progress dashboard | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Ads | None | None |
Everything above is free every day, no signup required: a full practice exam, your first 5 practice tickets, your first 5 topics, your first 3 rule-card subcategories, 5 mistake drills, and unlimited Sign Quiz. That is enough to genuinely study for your permit test before you spend anything.
What Premium actually unlocks
- Unlimited exams instead of 1 per day (3 total) - keep re-testing as many times as you want the week before your DMV appointment.
- Every practice ticket for your state, not just the first 5.
- Every topic and every rule-card subcategory, not just the free starter set.
- The AI Hub: Quick Practice (an algorithm that re-drills your actual weak topics), Readiness Predictor (a pass-readiness estimate calibrated to your state’s real passing bar), Study Plan (a day-by-day plan toward your test date), and AI Sign Scanner (point your camera at a sign, get the meaning - iOS only, fully on-device).
- Unlimited mistake drills and mini-quizzes instead of the daily caps.
Premium is a one-time Lifetime purchase or a Monthly subscription with a free trial - see current pricing on the App Store for the exact numbers, since App Store prices can change and we never want to publish a stale figure here.
Frequently asked questions
Is DMV Ready really free to start?
Yes. You can download the app, take a full practice exam, work through your first 5 practice tickets and first 5 topics, and use Sign Quiz without paying anything or creating an account.
What do I lose if I never upgrade to Premium?
You are capped at 1 full exam per day (3 total), your first 5 practice tickets, your first 5 topics, your first 3 rule-card subcategories, and 5 mistake drills per day. The AI Hub (Quick Practice, Readiness Predictor, Study Plan, AI Sign Scanner) stays locked. Sign Quiz, Sign Reference, achievements, and the leaderboard are unlimited either way.
Are there ads in the free tier?
No. DMV Ready has no ads in the free tier or Premium - that has been true since launch and it is not changing.
Do I need to create an account to use the free tier?
No. You can start practicing immediately after installing the app. Progress syncs to iCloud automatically; a Game Center sign-in is only needed if you want to appear on the leaderboard.
What’s the difference between Premium Monthly and Premium Lifetime?
Both grant identical access to every Premium feature - there is no feature difference between them. Monthly is a subscription with a free trial; Lifetime is a single one-time purchase with no recurring charge. See current pricing for the exact numbers.
